Dousti, “friendship” In Persian, is one of the series of satellites for technology development in the country ordered by Iranian Space Agency, and designed and built by Sharif University of Technology.

Technology development projects are defined and implemented in order to produce technical knowledge and gain experience in the areas related to space technology, and to witness as well the participation of universities in training specialized personnel. In this regard, Dousti satellite, in particular, was designed and built to develop and achieve the technologies installed and used for the first time on indigenous satellites. These technologies include three-axis attitude control of satellite, fault-tolerant OBDH, semi-active heat control system, and domestically produced solar cells that can be used in space. The maximum operational lifetime of this satellite was planned to be one year with a ballistic lifetime commensurate with its orbit.

Dousti is a micro-satellite with a mass of 52 kg, according to the satellite classification by mass criterion, placed in a LEO elliptical orbit at an altitude of between 250 and 310 km with an inclination of 55 degrees.

It is a satellite of almost cubic shape with a side length of 50 cm and no propulsion for orbital maneuvering to change the inclination of the orbit; therefore, after being deployed in the predetermined orbit and performing its assigned missions during its lifetime, it was planned to enter the atmosphere by consuming kinetic energy and descending to lower orbits at the end of its operational lifetime. The satellite’s power was supplied by batteries and solar panels.
