About Asia- Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO)

The Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) was formally inaugurated in 2008 with the objective of the peaceful usage of space by developing space applications, exploiting space technology and exploring space science for promotion of sustainable socio-economic development and benefit people in the Asia – Pacific region. As an inter-governmental organization, APSCO has already developed eight full Member States, namely Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand and Turkey, one Signatory State: Indonesia and one Observer State: Mexico.

APSCO objectives are:

  1. Promoting and strengthening the development of collaborative space programs among its Member States by establishing the basis for cooperation in peaceful applications of space science and technology;
  2. Taking effective actions to assist the Member States in such areas as space technological research and development, applications and training by elaborating and implementing space development policies;
  3. Promoting cooperation, joint development, and to share achievements among the Member States in space technology and its applications as well as in space science research by tapping the cooperative potential of the region;
  4. Enhancing cooperation among relevant enterprises and institutions of the Member States and to promote the industrialization of space technology and its applications;
  5. Contribute to the peaceful uses of outer space in the international cooperative activities in space technology and its applications.

With the wise guidance of APSCO Council, the APSCO secretariat actively and continuously implement the collaborative activities following the organizational objectives and incorporating the interests and demands of all APSCO Member States.

APSCO Cooperative Activities

There are three main areas under which APSCO projects can be classified, namely, Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications.

a. Space Technology

  1. APSCO Joint Small Multi-Mission Satellite Constellation Program
  2. Radiometric Calibration for Satellite Sensors Project

b. Space Science

  1. Asia-Pacific Ground-Based Optical Space Objects Observation System (APOSOS)
  2. Research on Atmospheric Effects on Ka Band Rain Attenuation Modeling
  3. Research on Determining Precursor Ionospheric Signatures of Earthquakes by Ground Based Ionospheric Sounding
  4. Research on Establishment of a Framework for Researches on Application of Space Technology for Disaster Monitoring in the APSCO Member States Project

c. Space Applications

  1. Data Sharing Service Platform and Its Application Pilot Project
  2. Applications of Compatible Navigation Terminal System-Software BEIDOU /GPS Receiver
  3. Development and Demonstration of Application of Compatible GNSS Terminals for Emergency Management and Disasters Rescue
  4. International GNSS Monitoring and Assessment (iGMA)
